As Europe Burns ~ Australia's Own Wildfire Solutions Remain Idle!
Proven Australian Solutions ~ for the homeowner, the community, the Region & the French, Spanish & Portuguese Nations are Ready for Immediate Deployment!
While France and Spain post their worst fire records on record, three proven Australian defences ~ a sprinkler, a doctrine, and an armoured fire-fighting truck are still sitting in sheds instead of being integrated into Standard Operating Wildfire Procedures.
Right now hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing their homes across southwestern France and Spain as wildfires burn at a scale researchers describe as off the charts. The the area burned in France is already 40% larger than the previous record year, with at least three deaths including two firefighters.
A photo created on July 27, 2026 combining data from the European Forest Fire Information System (Effis) and NASA’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) shows a map depicting active wildfires, the progression of burned areas since July 22, 2026, and the distance of the active fires from the city of Bordeaux, southwestern France. Wildfires are also close to Madrid, the Spanish capital, as this map below shows.

It is a brutal reminder that fire seasons are no longer following the old rulebook. Which makes this the right moment to revisit an uncomfortable Australian fact: this country has already built ~ and proven, in the field and under fire ~ three separate answers to exactly this problem.
None of them are new.
None of them are theoretical.
All three are sitting in sheds, in doctrine, and in one very lucky man’s backyard.
Case One · Clonbinane, Victoria, Australia ~~ Black Saturday, 2009

Case Two · Adapt Military Doctrine, 1918 → to Wildfire Doctrine, 2007!
The General Who Refused to Expend Soldiers Lives ~ and the Firefighting Doctrine he Accidentally Wrote.
Sir John Monash, Commanding the Australian Corps on the Western Front in had one Principle: protect the person, not the objective.
Monash was, by his own biographers’ account, an outsider ~ an engineer and citizen-soldier rather than a career officer ~ whose obsessive planning and refusal to trade lives for ground is credited with helping force Germany’s capitulation.
The doctrine translates cleanly to bushfire command: protect the crew first, and build the machinery to make that possible, rather than treating courage as a substitute for equipment.

~ Adapting War-fighting Vehicles into Fire-fighting Units ~
Case Three · Bendigo, Victoria Australia → The Fireground, since 2005!
Australia sends soldiers into war zones inside an Protected Mobility Vehicle [PMV] ~ the Bushmaster.
The same factory in Bendigo also builds a firefighting version of this PMV.
It has been protecting forestry crews for two decades ~ just not at national scale.
The question this publication first asked in 2007 stands unanswered: if Australia already trusts this chassis to carry soldiers through a warzone, why is its firefighting cousin still a boutique fleet in South Australia, rather than Standard Equipment wherever crews are sent into the highest-risk fire ground?

Three separate proofs of concept, spanning a century, converge into the same conclusion: protection-first design works, and Australia keeps re-discovering it one fire season at a time rather than funding it as standing policy.
That is not a capability gap.
It is a scaling and procurement gap ~ and those are choices, not acts of nature.
None of these Three Wildfire Mitigation &
Combat Options are Unproven
They are all however, Under-utilised & Under-scaled.

not to wither away under merciless machine-gun fire,
not to impale itself on hostile bayonets,
but on the contrary,
to advance under the maximum possible protection of the maximum possible array of mechanical resources, in the form of guns, machine-guns, tanks, mortars and aeroplanes;
